Arran Whisky is one of the success stories of the spirit’s boom, with the triumph of the Lochranza operation prompting the company to open a second distillery at Lagg, another Arran site.
Arran are proud of their local roots – as shown by this whisky, which is made in tribute to two landmarks on the island. The bottling is the “Third Volume” in the company’s Explorer Series, is beautifully presented with a colourful label depicting a scene of Kildonan and Pladda.
After maturation in an array of fortified wine casks, this dram is presented at a cask strength of 50.4%, and serves up plentiful fruity flavours.

Sweet aromas of tinned peaches and nectarines greet the drinker, soon followed by juicy raspberries, cherries and plums, some bittersweet chocolate and wine-soaked oak.
A supple palate possesses flavours of lip-smacking red wine tannins, dark chocolate, toffee apples, the nose’s jammy red fruits, earthy malt and damp wood.
A touch of tobacco smoke emerges on this lingering finish, with a strong sweet red wine note, dark oak and a near ever-lasting spiced chocolate character taking hold.
