The demand for Japanese whisky has exploded over the past decade as first the Highball cocktail landed and then the global whisky market as a whole began to flourish.

This led to plenty of new entrants into the market including sake distiller Kiyokawa. They have specialised in blended whisky and their Kensei Japanese Whisky brand has been among their most successful.

The name Kensei is taken from the title traditionally given to exceptional warriors. It is therefore fitting that this whisky certainly packs a punch. It has been blended from a selection of Japanese whiskies all of which have been aged for at least four years in small oak barrels.

The youth comes across in its rather sharp and spicy taste meaning that a little water is advisable to take the edge off. With water, you get to enjoy a fruity and balanced whisky with a long sweet finish.

One of my favourites!

This is such a light, delicious whisky, it’s fast becoming my go-to. It has incredible notes of toffee apple that are so more-ish. Highly recommend!

Japanese jem

Not one for reviews but this one is different, my daughter got me a sample pack from whiskey loot and there was one outstanding sample for me and it was the Kensei tester , now I've traveled to the US and Scotland & Ireland and tried a number of whiskey's but nothing like the kensei sample so like ordered a bottle that didn't last long , the floral notes and sweetness is completely different then anything I've tried before and l would recommend to anyone to give it a go even if it's just from the sample packs... but l do need a new bottle or 3😂
