A terrific, staggeringly mature single malt from Speyside distillery BenRiach. The distillery is known for having a strong core of fruitiness in its spirit, and this bottling is no exception. Aged for no less than a quarter-century in a combination Oloroso Sherry casks, former Bourbon barrels and virgin oak casks, the dram is bottled at 46.8% for greater body and depth.
BenRiach is a Speyside distillery with a fascinating history. It began distilling in 1898 but closed just two years later and sat empty and unused until 1965, when the golden era of Scotch whisky saw it brought back to life.
In 2004, it became one of the few independent Scotch whisky distilleries, and this period marked great experimentation from the distillery, with a wonderful variety of styles and expressions produced. Though BenRiach's parent company was bought by Brown-Forman (owners of Jack Daniel's) in 2016, the American corporation has taken a hands-off approach, allowing the BenRiach style to continue to
