No whisky-lover's education is complete without a taste of Speyside single malt.
Quite possibly the most important whisky producing region in the world, Speyside plays host to over half of Scotland's single malt distilleries, some of the world's best-selling names amongst them. Featuring the likes of Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenfarclas and many, many more, Speyside accounts for over 60% of Scotland's single malt production by volume.
Broadly, Speyside's style is typified by a light, grassy malt profile, often offering notes of toffee, vanilla and apples. However, the region also contains diverse styles of spirit, including heavily Sherried drams from The Macallan and Aberlour. In recent years, Speyside distilleries have even experimented with smoky, peaty drams, as demonstrated by the Balvenie, BenRiach and Benromach distilleries.
With such a wide variety of whisky on offer, there truly is a delicious Speyside drop for every drinker. Luckily, exploring, tasting and discovering which is for you is the fun part!
