One of Speyside's youngest distilleries - Tomintoul is quickly becoming a favourite of reviewers and experts alike. Barley driven, Non chill filtered and without added colourants, this malt is hailed as an excellent expression from a undiscussed distiller.
More Details
We've managed to score very limited quantities of the distillers most awarded recent release. The gentle dram is what Tomintoul calls itself. This one is anything but, complex, subtle and densely layered - but certainly not gentle.
Tomintoul (pronounced ‘tom-in-TOWEL’) was built in 1964, in the village of the same name, which itself is one of Scotland’s highest, at an altitude of 345m (1132 feet). Drawing its water from the Ballantruan Spring, the whisky distillery sits in rugged terrain; jagged undulations surround and are specked with many a wooded clump.

Tasting notes
Nose
Floral, toffee and a complete fruit salad. A true display of the most important thing for all Scotch, the barley.
Taste
A truly vital style of Scotch to understand, crisp savoury barley, challenged by gentle undertones of vanilla yogurt. None sour, nor sugary - this is a true challenge of malt - hence the love from the reviewing community.
Finish
Green Apples and a up of the vanilla bake. Truly a whisky to divide preferences. But those who enjoy, truly love it.
