Amaro Montenegro dates back to 1885, and is made from a secret recipe of 40 botanicals, including citrus peel, vanilla and eucalyptus. In 1896, the liqueur was renamed after Princess Elena of Montenegro, to celebrate her marriage.
Montenegro is a type of Amaro, a traditional style of bittersweet Italian liqueur. These liqueurs often originated in pharmacies as health tonics, containing botanicals prized for their health benefits. Amari are best enjoyed after a meal.
