The Sauternes Cask Finish is the latest addition to the Arran Distilleries Cask Finishes range. This one has matured in traditional oak casts for about eight years before being transferred into casks which previously held Sauternes sweet wine cask from the Bordeaux region of France.
Arran’s Master Distiller took a special interest in this secondary maturation phase in an effort to ensure the perfect balance between the sweet-wine infused barrels and Arran’s distinctive and complex single malt.
The result is a complex whisky packed with honey sweetness and hints of grapes and citrus fruits yet complimented by a toasted-oak spiciness. The Arran Sauternes Cask Finish has No Age Statement and there is a slight harshness on the palate which is typical of younger whiskies. But when enjoyed with a little water, it is transformed into charming and complex single malt that any whisky fan should enjoy.

Tasting notes
Nose
A honey-sweetness comes first followed by a zesty citrus aroma with apricots and pears, and just a gentle hint of sea salt.
Taste
Sweet and spicy with honey to the fore before a sharp slightly bitter flavor with citrus, mint, and toasted oak takes over. With water, lemon zest and orange marmalade emerge while the spice is softened slightly.
Finish
Medium length This is where the Sauternes really emerges and leaves you wanting more.
