The mid-range expression from long-standing Highlander, Balblair. This 15 year old expression was initially aged in ex-Bourbon casks, before a finishing period in first fill Spanish butts, for a huge hit of spicy, fruit flavours. A kick in strength to 46% and the lack of chill filtration produces a full bodied, intense whisky.
Balblair is one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, dating all the way back to 1790! Found in the picturesque Northern Highlands, Balblair is located in a valley full of peat, surrounded by rugged mountains.
The distillery was previously known for its use of vintages in place of age statements, but they switched over in 2019. Whilst peat might have been the order of the day back in the 18th century, these days Balblair produces a fruity, often citrus-led dram.

Coffee beans, cinnamon and fresh redcurrants greet the drinker. On a second pass, you’ll find complex aromas of vanilla bean, dark oak and dried plums.
A little more apple and pear sweetness here, with some biscuity malt, sultanas, cacao nibs and gingerbread. Cinnamon comes through again, providing a little warming zip.
A long, decadent finish with rolling notes of cedarwood, dark chocolate and Sherried dried fruits. A cut above the average, this is a ripper of a dram.
