A Scottish whisky “old enough to order itself” – this is a well-matured single malt from the highly regarded Balblair distillery. This dram was initially matured in former Bourbon barrels, before a finishing period in first fill Sherry Spanish oak butts, imparting dignified dried fruit flavours.
More Details
For years, Balblair was known for bucking one of the industry’s great trends. The North Highland distillery did not label their bottles with age statements, but with vintages featuring the year of distillation.
They finally joined the ranks of the wider whisky-making community in 2019, treating their bottles to a label redesign in the process. What hasn’t changed is the fantastic quality of their spirit, which is known for its fruit-toned sweetness and precise citrus flavours.

Tasting notes
Nose
Stewed fruits take hold - apples, pears and plums particularly. There’s some dry red wine aromas, toffee and cracked pepper spice too, with an inviting dark oak fragrance.
Taste
Heaps of Sherry influence here: dried apricots, prunes and milk chocolate appear on a luscious mouthfeel. Creamy vanilla comes through with time, as does some deep oaky nutmeg.
Finish
Extremely long with rolling flavours of raisins, liquorice and tannic drying oak. A dram of an exceptional quality.
