Named after one of the Founding Fathers of Bourbon, Elijah Craig. It’s said that Craig, a baptist minister living in what would become Kentucky, was the first to age corn whiskey in charred oak barrels – now a defining feature of Bourbon. This small batch, high proof and high quality expression is a fitting tribute to such a historic figure in the spirit’s history. Elijah Craig is known for its sweet, orchard fruit flavours.

18th Century preacher Elijah Craig was something of a trailblazer. He built Kentucky’s first cloth mill, first paper mill, and first rope factory. He also constructed an early distillery, and crucially, is said to have been the first to age his whiskey in charred oak barrels, giving Bourbon its distinctive character.
These days, the whiskey is produced by the famous Heaven Hill distillery, having been first launched back in the mid-80s. The whiskey is apparently made to a mashbill of 78% corn, 12% barley and 10% rye, producing a sweet and subtly spiced whiskey. Each batch is thought to be the product of just 100 barrels.

Tasting notes
Nose
Opens with aromas of toasty oak, baked apple pie and floral honey, joined by a little powdered cinnamon, vanilla and caramel sauce.
Taste
Thick and warming, with spicier notes of nutmeg, star anise, pepper and cinnamon taking hold, followed by freshly baked biscuits, cooked apple and honeycomb lollies.
Finish
Long, with an emphasis on charred oak befitting of the whiskey’s namesake. Sweet orchard fruits and marmalade lends balance to the finish.
