A marvellous Caol Ila whisky from the legendary Gordon & MacPhail bottlers, who can partly be credited with popularising the single malt style. This dram has been finished in a red wine cask from the renowned Hermitage AOC in France, which is famed for producing some of the world’s best Syrah/Shiraz. The end result is a classic combo of sweet and peat.

Tasting notes
Nose
Bonfire smoke is joined by aromas of jammy red berries, toasted malt, marzipan, burnt grass, orange zest, some earthy spice and toffee.
Taste
Dried fruits take the stage here, with flavours of fruitcake accompanying thick peat smoke, wood embers, vanilla, sour cherries and milk chocolate.
Finish
More lingering smouldering oak, becoming spicy as cinnamon, white pepper and powdered ginger emerge. Very long and warming.
