Eagerly awaited by American whiskey fans every year, this bottling is a sumptuous blend of straight rye whiskies, finished for a time in rich French oak Port barrels. In total, this juice has been aged for around six years, giving the naturally spicy rye spirit plenty of time to mellow, and develop depth of character. The result is a wonderfully festive dram, perfect for the cooler months, beautifully presented in a playbook themed design – each batch is hand-labelled with Acts and Scenes!

Utah might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of whiskey-making, but the remarkable High West distillery is helping to re-define the state’s reputation.
A quality producer and bottler of American spirits, High West was the first distillery operating in the Beehive State since 1870. High West is located in the only ski-in gastro-distillery in the world, and offering food alongside tours of their site, which now houses a 6,000 litre copper pot still.
This whiskey is clearly inspired by Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in which fairies use love potions to create chaos and comedy in the heat of summer. High West’s ‘A Midwinter Nights Dram’ flips the script – it is a potion you will love, that warms and comforts in the cooler months.
Bottled at 49.3% and non-chill-filtered, this is a rich and satisfying rye whiskey. Exquisitely presented with a label that recalls Shakespeare’s first quarto, published in the year 1600.

Tasting notes
Nose
Jammy strawberries, raspberries and plums are joined by cinnamon spice, red wine grapes, chocolate malt, slight mint and raisins. A nose that promises luxury and complexity.
Taste
A promise fulfilled. Dark chocolate, plums, cherries and dried fruit coat the palate, delivered by a rich, full mouthfeel. Rye spices of cinnamon, clove and dried mint provide balance.
Finish
Extremely long and spicy, with some sweetening notes of dessert wine, brown sugar and citrus rind. The perfect dram for the Midwinter.
