A 2020 addition to the Kavalan range, this bottling aims to showcase the different qualities of the distillery’s new make spirit, and the effects of the subtropical Taiwanese climate on cask maturation. The result is an especially herbal, floral and malty Kavalan single malt.

This is Kavalan unplugged. Kavalan’s Solist and Rare Sherry range have emphasised the effects of powerfully flavoured wine and Sherry barrels on their whisky. Here, the spirit is the star of the show – demonstrating that to make good whisky, you need good new make and expert distillers.
This juice has been presented in a bottle designed to recall an architectural marvel of the East, Taipei 101, one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. A sweet and floral dram that has enjoyed maturation in refill Japanese whisky casks.

Tasting notes
Nose
Punchy and floral, with notes of chopped mint, cut grass, cinnamon, nutmeg, cherries, melon and caramelised malt. Some heather honey provides an inviting sweetness.
Taste
Gentle heat arrives on the palate as cracked black pepper and cinnamon. The spice gives way to honeyed malt toast, vanilla-rich oak, fresh pastry and dried flowers.
Finish
A medium length finish that boasts lingering, drying spice. An ideal introduction to Kavalan’s esteemed range, this dram will appeal to fans of the gentler single malts.
