Kavalan’s Solist range is renowned for serving up some of the finest single barrel whisky around. This bottling is no exception – a delightful Port cask single malt from the Taiwanese distillery. Kavalan’s warehouses experience enormous fluctuation in temperature, reaching as high as 42Cº, meaning the whisky enjoys accelerated evaporation and maturation.

One of the most lauded and exciting of the “New World” whisky distillery, Kavalan has made its name with high quality single malt whiskies – famously, a blind tasting in 2010 saw a youthful Kavalan dram beat out offerings from more established Scottish distillers.
The Taiwanese distillery only started producing whisky in 2008, but is now seen as the model for warmer-climate distilleries, with a range of different expressions to try.
Their Solist range of single cask whiskies is up there with the best of them, and makes a nod to Kavalan’s long-running musical theme. This Port cask dram showcases the distillery’s spirit, with an extra dose of fruity sweetness.

Tasting notes
Nose
Fragrant stewed plums and figs in syrup open this dram, soon joined by an earthy vanilla quality, and notes of dark oak, cinnamon, raisins and cacao nibs.
Taste
Intense hot-cinnamon lollies, followed by thick jammy strawberries, raspberries and cherries. Espresso, charred oak and dark chocolate balance out the sweetness perfectly.
Finish
Very long, with slightly mouth-tingling flavours of black pepper, dessert wine, plums, red grapes, sweet liquorice, cinnamon and nutmeg.
