An excellent dram from the Lagavulin Distillery. This release was distilled in 2005 and then bottled in 2020 as a part of the beloved Distillers Edition series, making this single malt approximately 15 years old. What makes this Lagavulin unique is a finishing period in sticky, sweet Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks. A delicious, flavoursome dram that expertly balances smoke with rich, raisiny sweetness.

One of Islay’s most popular distilleries, Lagavulin’s reputation is built on the back of its excellent 16 year old standard release, now a member of Diageo’s illustrious ‘Classic Malts’ range.
Lagavulin now runs near-enough non stop, all year round, such is the demand for the distillery’s fruity, smoky and rich spirit.
This dram undergoes a "double maturation" as they call it - essentially different cask maturation to the 16 year old’s classic ex-Bourbon, which sees the juice finished in sticky, sweet Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks. A radically different take on Lagavulin that is supremely drinkable.

Tasting notes
Nose
The first impression is classically Islay - ashy coal and maritime notes. Although, this is quickly balanced by plenty of sweet notes. Vanilla, raisins, chopped dates and toasted malt all make an appearance.
Taste
Similar to the nose, the huge peat notes are quickly balanced and well rounded. Sweet and velvety with condensed almond milk, vanilla, espresso and a glimmer of dark fruits.
Finish
A tale of two cities on the finish, with the classical smoky notes lasting for an eternity, while the body of cream, fruit, and oak is short-lived. Supremely drinkable.
