Known as the maritime malt, Old Pulteney 12 year old is heavily influenced by its maritime setting. Aged in former Bourbon barrels, this dram possesses a superb balance between salinity and sweetness. The intriguing bottle design reflects the unique shape of Pulteney’s stills!
More Details
For years, Pulteney was the most northerly distillery on mainland Britain. Recent addition to the whisky-making scene, Wolfburn Distillery, has recently stolen that title. Indeed, for a long time Pulteney’s hometown of Wick was considered too perilous and remote for a road, and was only accessible by sea. Barley came in by boat, and the whisky left the same way - only in barrels.
This 12 year old dram, the distillery’s best-selling offering, is a wonderful introduction to Pulteney’s unique north Highland style.

Tasting notes
Nose
Rich honeyed toast and vanilla dominate, slowly revealing underlying aromas of cut peach, Bourbon oak, fresh grain and seaspray.
Taste
An oily delivery, with flavours of peanut butter on oatcakes, red apples, salted caramel, caramelised mandarin rind with a little cinnamon. Some gentle pepperiness leads into the finish.
Finish
Medium length with heaps of Bourbon cask character: toffee apples, vanilla pod and red cherry lollies. Some brininess sticks around - The Maritime Malt lives up to its name.
