A lovely, heavily Sherried dram from Indian distiller Paul John. Whilst the distillery itself is based in Goa, this single malt is distilled from high quality six-row Indian barley, grown at the base of the Himalayas. The spirit spent the first five years of its maturation in former Bourbon barrels, before enjoying a two year finishing period in 60 year old Pedro Ximenez casks.

John Distilleries, which produces Paul John, is one of the best-selling spirits-makers in the world. Best known in their home country for making Original Choice, a blended “whisky” that contains a quantity of molasses-based neutral spirit, John Distilleries launched Paul John as their high quality single malt brand back in 2012. A far cry from their other products, Paul John Single Malt can stand alongside the finest whiskies in the world.
Select Cask is the title given to Paul John’s range of premium single malt whiskies, matured in the best casks and optimal locations in their climate controlled, underground cellar.
This bottling showcases the perfect balance between the distillery’s Indian barley, and the powerful sweetness of the Pedro Ximenez cask.

Tasting notes
Nose
Thick aromas of sweet figs, blackberry jam, toasted malt biscuits, vanilla and dark oak greet the drinker. A little citrus rind adds balance.
Taste
Sweet dessert wine and black grape soda immediately announce themselves, followed by dark chocolate, leather, drying oak, plum sauce and wine tannins.
Finish
Long, with lingering lip-smacking Sherried fruits and slightly astringent oak. A seriously powerful and fruity dram.
