Since their foundation back in 2007, Starward have built a reputation for producing excellent, and rather experimental, single malt Australian whisky. Whether it be ginger beer casks, or partnering with local cider-makers to produce a delicious pear brandy, Starward are a distillery that do things differently. They are not located in a misty glen or a sunbaked field, but rather in the post-industrial landscape of Port Melbourne and their attitude towards flavour reflects their food-crazy hometown. Starward produce high quality single malts that can be enjoyed alongside the best that Scotland, Japan and Tasmania have to offer. But they also make whisky that’s perfect for pairing with food or mixing into cocktails. For the Starward Ginger Beer Cask #7, the distillers re-wrote the rulebook, despite having award-winning and cult-favourite recipes. This allowed the zing of the fresh ginger to sing, while simultaneously bringing forward bold vanilla notes that are synonymous with American Oak barrels. Starward spirit was finished for a total of 12 months in these zesty ginger beer casks, to create the scrumptious and versatile single malt that it is today.
