The Corowa Characters celebrates the people behind the whisky made at the distillery in Corowa, NSW. A very approachable, single malt, wine cask whisky that exhibits floral characters with honeycomb sweetness on the nose. The palate indicates the combination of French and American Oak influences and the sweetness follows through with good spirit integration.

A distillery with a fascinating backstory.
Located in "the Birthplace of Federation" – the small town of Corowa, in Country NSW – this distillery was created to breath new life into the region. The distillery is found inside the old Flour Mill, which closed in 1970, but that had once processed and packaged local grains, before sending them around the world. In an abstract sense, the distillery does a similar job. Corowa's Flour Mill was sold to the distillery's founders, Neil and Dean Druce, for a single dollar, on the proviso that they returned the Mill to its former glory.
So they got to work, visiting distilleries in two of whisky's great islands: Islay and Tasmania. After learning their trade and restoring the Mill, the distillery finally opened in 2015, located in what was previously the silo storage.
This is a whisky that helps tell that story, focusing on the people behind the liquid.

Tasting notes
Nose
Salted butter, marzipan and thick double cream textures coat the inside of the nostrils. This evolves into bright red berries, freshly cut grass and just enough zingy floral grapefruit zest to give it a lift.
Taste
Tropical fruits of overripe pineapple and mango. Vanilla gives a comforting softness like a warm blanket. Waxy fresh honeycomb straight from the hive coats the mouth.
Finish
The shortish finish offers hints of raisins, floral pink pepper, Turkish delight and moderate dark chocolate bitterness.
