Kurayoshi Matsui Distillery, whilst in operation since 1910, has only more recently started releasing whisky - traditionally producing beer, sake and shochu. Whilst certainly aged for a minimum of eight years in white oak barrels, with a lack of regulation of the Japanese whisky industry, it is rumoured that this pure malt blend also contains a little Scottish whisky in it!

Tasting notes
Nose
Grain-forward with hints of fruit. Like a bowl of muesli drenched in milk with fresh cut pears and red berries. A little crunchy almond and wisp of elderflower.
Taste
Speyside-Esque with honeyed apricots and stewed green apples. Sweet notes of vanilla and light caramel with a touch of pink peppercorn and toasted oak warmth.
Finish
Cereal notes linger on the finish becoming nutty with oily macadamias and creamy blanched almonds. A medium-length that becomes more toasty oak spice as it continues to dry out.
