A high quality blended malt whisky from this rather underrated producer. Made with a blend of Scottish and Japanese whiskies, the dram has been diluted to bottling strength with the purest water, filtered through the volcanic rock of the nearby Mount Daisen. Easy drinking juice to relax with.
More Details
Found in the shade of Mount Daisen, Matsui distillery began producing its own spirit in 2017. The Tottori prefecture, where this distillery is situated, is known for its coastal environment and famous sand dunes. This location produces a subtle, yet detectable maritime quality to Matsui’s whiskies.
Whilst not technically a Japanese whisky, as per Japan’s new regulations (read more about this here), this expression is a good introduction to the Japanese style. Scottish and Japanese malt whiskies mingle to produce a well balanced, approachable and harmonious dram.

Tasting notes
Nose
A rich maltiness is the primary aroma, soon followed by sweet oak and vanilla, subtle apples and pears and the faintest wisp of Scottish peat smoke.
Taste
Light and approachable mouthfeel, accompanied by apples, pears, vanilla pod and a little sea salt. There’s a glimpse of sherried raisins and plums, and some gentle toasted oak.
Finish
Short and sweet with plenty of brown sugar, cinnamon and malty biscuits. A great introduction to this producer, that would also make for an ideal “daily drinker”.
