A blended whisky that is truly a global effort. This bottling contains malt and grain spirit from both Scotland and Japan and has been produced at the Matsui Kurayoshi distillery, found in the shadow of Mount Daisen. As per Japan’s new whisky labeling rules, (read more about that here), this juice must now be called a “whisky of Japan”. Nevertheless, this is refreshing, approachable whisky – the distillery suggests trying it in a Highball!
More Details
Produced in, and named after, the Tottori prefecture of Japan, this coastal region imparts a subtle, yet detectable, maritime quality to Matsui Kurayoshi’s whiskies.
The distillery dilute their whisky down to bottling strength using pure water from the nearby Mount Daisen. This is in keeping with the Matsui house style of clean, precisely flavoured drams that are a perfect introduction to the harmonious Japanese approach to whisky-making.

Tasting notes
Nose
Soft aromas of waxy lemon rind, subtle honeysuckle and vanilla biscuits emerge gently. There’s some bright grain sweetness, and a faint apple pie quality.
Taste
Fruitier here than the nose, with supple flavours of peaches in syrup, white chocolate, malty biscuits, a little bright oak, light sultanas and more vanilla.
Finish
Short, sweet and crisp - this would make a terrific introductory whisky, or a great base for whisky cocktails.
