Kurayoshi Matsui Distillery, whilst in operation since 1910, has only more recently started releasing whisky - traditionally producing beer, sake and shochu. The Tottori blends are tributes to the namesake town in which the distillery is located. Whilst aged for around three years in Japan in ex-bourbon barrels, with a lack of regulation of the Japanese whisky industry, it is rumoured that this blend also contains a little Scottish and American whisky in it!

Tasting notes
Nose
Plenty of youthful grain character - think muesli bars and warm porridge. Bourbon heavy character of sweet vanilla oak with a little grassiness and minerality.
Taste
Develops a mildly oily mouthfeel with a medium body. Plenty of vanilla, caramels and a little leather, but overall pretty youthful and spicy. With a bit more age this could be something special.
Finish
A little more complexity on the medium-length finish with toasted marshmallow, rock candy and orange peel bitterness drying out the tongue.
