The creation of Chivas Bros’ Master Blender, Colin Scott, Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is one of the finest blended whiskies around. A top quality blend, with a higher proportion of malt whisky in the mix, the dram is said to contain more than 20 different single malts. A minimum of 18 years maturation has produced a whisky that is characterful, rich and decadent.
More Details
One of the biggest names in Scottish whisky production, Chivas Bros originally began as an upmarket grocer and luxury goods merchant in Scotland’s third city, Aberdeen. As was common at the time, the business also bought casks of malt whisky from distilleries around Scotland.
Consistency in whisky production had yet to be achieved, so grocers would blend together spirit in store, creating a whisky of better balance, that was sold under their company name. Chivas Regal is one of the most enduring blended whisky brands, having been first launched in 1909.
This deluxe 18 year old edition came later, in 1997, but has been a hit ever since. Based around Speyside malt whiskies, including plenty from Strathisla (described as Chivas’s spiritual home), this bottling is a delight to the senses!

Tasting notes
Nose
Opens with marmalade on malt toast, followed by a wave of sultanas, brown sugar, Christmas spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves) and rich ripe plums.
Taste
A light, gentle palate with the same spiciness of the nose, followed by vanilla, toffee and plentiful oakiness. Clove studded orange rind and lemon marmalade round things out.
Finish
A shorter finish that serves up flavours of brown sugar, warming cinnamon spice and black pepper, caramelised citrus fruit and a little lingering toasted oak.
