More Details
The Scapa distillery, located on the Orkney Islands, is the second most northerly distillery in Scotland.
The Skiren single malt was added to their range in 2015 and while it boasts Scapa’s distinctive modern branding, its is a whisky is rooted in the areas proud history and traditions.
The name Skiren is taken from the Old Norse word for "glittering bright skies" and it has been distilled in the only remaining working Lomond Still in all of Scotland.
Scapa called it their ‘honeyed tropical’ one and it doesn’t take long to see why. This single malt is rich and sweet with bags of tropical fruits compliment the oak-spices from the first-fill American Oak Casks which have been specially selected by Scapa artisans.
There are also hints of American whiskey in the combination of sweetness and spiciness on offer here. It’s a really easy whisky to drink and ideal neat or with water or ice as you prefer.

Tasting notes
Nose
Runny honey and fresh cream. Hints of apple and a touch of anise. Maybe some crushed nuts, too... Classic Scapa apples – waxy green, toffee-covered and apple pie. With them comes a touch of sea spray, with both brine and a gently medicinal hint, some almost rye-whiskey-like spice and a hint of mint.
Taste
Continued honey warmth and richness. Sparks of juicy pear and lemon peel. Touches of oak develop further on, bringing some balancing spice. Soft and sweet, with brown-sugar-dusted buttery shortbread, a core of dried and candied apple slices, ground spice, and an autumnal surround of damp forests.
Finish
Medium length and a bit sweet, with oak lasting too. Apple skin, Ryvita and green leaves, with soft brown sugar.
