Founded by brother-in-laws Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin, they wanted to shake up the gin category. After working for a large alcohol company for years, Mark knew it was time to make the jump and make gin cool again. With a name like Scapegrace, which roughly translates from the 18th century to “rogue”, you know you’re about to try something a little bit different. Scapegrace Black Gin is naturally black through a blend of unusual botanicals distilled and infused in a specific sequence. Think Aronia berry, saffron, pineapple and sweet potato. The inclusion of butterfly pea flower means it won’t stay black for long, changing to a pink-purple hue depending on the pH level of any mixers or ingredients added.

Thick blackcurrant upfront, almost like Ribena, gives way to soft perfumed violet flowers. Sandalwood, juniper and spice rise through on the second impression.
Tastes like a blueberry muesli bar! The odd combination of creamy starch from potato and woody earthy notes creates a cereal sweetness. Juniper is certainly there with the top notes of pine and citrus bringing balance.
