Here, we have one of the best casks from The Glenlivet stable, as selected by Master Distiller Alan Winchester. While the exact barrel variety remains a mystery, we can deduce it is highly likely an American oak ex-Bourbon cask. This particular release is a tribute to the Scottish town of Perth, where in times past, smugglers would intercept trade routes and pay over and above other brands for the superior whiskies made by The Glenlivet.
More Details
One of the most historic distilleries in Scotland, the Glenlivet was the first distillery in the Highlands (as Speyside was at the time) to receive a distilling licence, way back in 1824.
The act enraged the local illicit distillers, to the point where George Smith (Glenlivet’s first distiller) carried a pair of pistols for his protection.
These days, things are a lot calmer at the Glenlivet Distillery, which is now home to one of the most popular single malt brands in the world. Indeed, the distillery’s popularity was so high, that at one point other producers in Speyside added the suffix “Glenlivet” to their spirit, to suggest a similar quality and style, until lawsuits put a stop to the practice.
Glenlivet’s whisky is known for having a lighter, floral and fruity profile with notes of apple, pear and pineapple often prominent.

Tasting notes
Nose
Soft fruity notes of peaches in syrup and ripe pears come first, interlaced with aromas of vanilla ice cream and a touch of warm cinnamon.
Taste
Upfront, there is a sweet medley of traditional pear drops, french vanilla and chewy butterscotch, finely balanced with plenty of zesty orange rind.
Finish
Long, sweet and a hint of spice. A slight lemon sherbet effervescence with lingering flavours of toffee apples, freshly sawn oak and allspice.
