A well aged single malt from the Cardhu, known as “The Queen of Speyside”. Cardhu is famed for providing the core maltiness found in many Johnnie Walker blends. 18 years of maturation have brought depth and complexity to this dram, whilst maintaining its hallmark sweetness and gentle fruitiness. Apparently, only the distillery’s best casks get chosen for this bottling.
More Details
This bottling has been produced in a tribute to Helen Cummings, one of the early female pioneers of the whisky business. Alongside her husband John, she transformed their farm, Cardow, into a distillery. At the time, this was fairly common practice, and illicit stills were dotted all over the countryside. Helen would assist her fellow distillers by hoisting a red flag whenever the taxmen came around, giving them time to prepare. Helen’s act of fellowship is featured on the label of this bottling.
Helen later helped to expand the family business considerably, becoming one of the first distilleries to acquire a licence in 1823, before eventually handing the reins to another woman – her daughter in law Elizabeth.
Cardhu enjoys a particular popularity in Southern Europe, where it’s distinctive grassy, citrussy profile suits the climate.

Tasting notes
Nose
Nutty, malty and inviting, with aromas of lemon and orange zest, fresh bread and toffee, underpinned by fragrant oak and dark chocolate.
Taste
Medium bodied, with a buttery mouthfeel. Quite faithful to the nose, but introduces a little dried fruit: dates and raisins, alongside vanilla, brown sugar, caramel and yellow peaches.
Finish
Medium in length with some subtle aniseed, clean malt and even more sugared nuts. Some faint citrus acidity brightens things a little.
