Belgrove Distillery

In 2015, Peter Bignell established Belgrove distillery in Tasmania, and stands out as a farm-based distillery in Australia. It is the sole distillery in the country that sells rye whisky from paddock to bottle, cultivating rye directly on its premises. Belgrove places a strong emphasis on sustainability, evident in the way they conduct their operations. It includes harnessing water from its distillery roofs for brewing and dilution purposes, powering its tractors, forklifts, and trucks with biodiesel derived from used cooking oil, and the spent mash finds purpose as feed for Belgrove's sheep. Impressive recognition stemming from their mastery of the craft includes the Peated Rye Whisky receiving the prestigious ‘World Whiskies’ award for Southern Hemisphere Whisky of the Year in 2019, and the Belgrove Rye Whisky attaining a silver medal at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards 2023.
