The Gimlet was originally consumed by sailors to ward off scurvy. Get your own daily dose of gin and citrus with this all-time classic.
Beginning in the 19th century, the Gimlet was initially promoted by officers of the British navy to ward off scurvy - a ghastly disease brought on by Vitamin C deficiency. Medical officers enticed sailors to take their daily dose of citrus by bundling it together with their daily gin ration. From there, the drink has taken on a life of its own. It soon became popular not just for the health benefits, but also for its delicious and well-balanced taste. Don’t be fooled by imitation recipes on the internet though, this drink should be made stirred with lime cordial. Other recipes call for fresh lime juice and sugar to be shaken, and whilst delicious, this is an altogether different drink - really that’s a gin sour.

Bartender’s Top Tips
The classic recipe specifically calls for Roses lime juice cordial. Make sure you buy a high quality Lime juice based cordial, that is all natural with no artificial flavours. Otherwise, you could try your hand at making one! See a great recipe here.
Remember to chill your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before you fill it, to keep your drink colder and fresher for longer.
